San Antonio, TX
A public charter School on the Southside of San Antonio, TX, Prelude Prep is the perfect partner for building strong foundations.

Meet us at the mulch pile
At Prelude Prep the San Antonio Composting Project team came in clutch to help disperse forty yards of mulch to the children’s playground areas.
Already having mulch delivered by the City of San Antonio Solid Waste Department for use in our four vermicomposting beds, the worm team decided to answer the call to action and help make ready the playgrounds before the most recent back-to-school day.
Principal Rangel hypes the collaboration
The San Antonio Composting Project team and a group of dedicated volunteers helped to spread four truckloads of mulch around the children’s playground.
One Teacher Get’s It Going
It was all the effort of one teacher to contact the San Antonio Composting Project and ask how she could bring the worms to her classroom to share with the students.
4 Composting Beds
What began with one diy worm kit in a classroom has now grown to 4 compost beds just outside of the cafeteria, where students will get to see food scraps discarded in real time.
These beds will be the basis of the Prelude Prep vermicomposting program.
The red wiggler worms will break down the food scraps and turn them into a nutrient-rich soil amendment.
Lasting Connection
The San Antonio Composting Project is now working to bring long, hot composting rows to the empty fields East of the Prelude Prep campus.
This will allow the school and the SACP team to foster a longer-lasting connection.
As the composting project grows in scope, the opportunities to educate the students on the life-cycle of waste grow as well.
