Our Roots
We envision a world where wasted food becomes a resource, soil thrives, nutrient-rich food is more accessible, and sustainable living becomes a way of life.
We turn scraps into nutrient-rich soil through community-powered composting, partnerships with local organizations, and hands-on environmental education.
By making composting accessible across San Antonio, we’re building a greener, more connected city from the ground up.

How It Started
Where We Are Now
The San Antonio Composting Project began with one bin of red wigglers and a mission to fight food waste. Founder Christiana “Wren” Rodgers started composting in her backyard, while Kevan Arzani, working in local kitchens, saw perfectly good food thrown away daily. After connecting, they began collecting fruit and vegetable scraps from the Alamodome to feed worms and restore soil health.
What started with 8 buckets has grown into a 700-bucket system powered by volunteers, schools, and local food service partners.
Now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the San Antonio Composting Project brings together backyard composters, educators, and everyday people to reduce waste, regenerate soil, and invest in a sustainable future—one scrap at a time.
Our mission is to help people build healthy soil, grow food, and live more sustainably through composting, education, and partnerships.
